Cover Letter

• Look at the tips and samples of cover letters from yesterday
• Imagine you are about you graduate from your dream college and you are applying to your dream job
• Write a sample of what your cover letter should be
• Should only be one page typed (no longer)
• Needs to be 3-5 paragraphs, including
  1) Introduction
  2) 1-3 paragraphs demonstrating your qualifications
  3)Conclusion
• Use the samples to help you and remember to add things you want to do when you are in college ideally

Tuesday (may be on paper or online) Go to the site:Career and Life Planning Write down a list of the basic things a cover letter should have Click on Cover Letter Dos and Don'ts Create a t-chart summarizing what you should and should not do on your cover letter Click on View Letter Samples Go down to Cover letter and open it up Read 4 cover letters and answer the following: Which cover letter do you think is most likely to get the job they are looking for and WHY? Which cover letter is least likely to get the job they are looking for and WHY? What are 5 things you learned from reading the cover letters that you will incorporate into your cover letter?

Objectives:  I CAN set goals for what I want my future resume to look like.

• Define: resume
• Go to Resumes and read through the slides.
• List what goes into a resume. 
• For slides 4-8 write down everything you can write down currently in each section
• Objective and summary statement
• Work Experience
• Volunteer work and extracurricular activities
• Eduaction
• For slides 9-11 write down three tips they give you after you write a resume
• Classify: What is the importance of having a good resume? 
•  (answer in 1 complete sentence)
• Look at the sample resume (page 5)
• Create what your resume would look like right now!
• Look at page 4 above and use any template you can find!
• We will continue this tomorrow.

• What is one hard skill and one soft skills you are striving to be better at?
